about me

My name is Mackenzie Johnson. I am currently a Design and Layout major at Macomb Community College in Southeast Michigan. I enjoy creating digital illustrations, designs, and typographic pieces. I plan on graduating with my associates degree in 2020 and plan to pursue a career after that. A lot of my upcoming work will be portfolio pieces and designs for school projects, but I also plan on working on personal projects too!

this is me!
this is my high school!

I attended and graduated from Lake Shore High School in 2016. This is surprisingly where I found my love for art and design! I started by taking art classes as often as I could, but I eventually enrolled for web design class, which was my favorite. I ended up taking the class on three seperate occassions. Not only did I learn a bit of coding and some website layout ideas, but I established a passion for graphic design also.

what inspires me

my most common source of inspiration

My inspiration stems from things I see in my everyday life. Design is everywhere- whether we notice it or not! I have always paid too much attention to billboards on the side of the freeway or a poster on a building. It's the little things like this that can either make or break the scene we see. My goal is to make pieces that can inspire others or make the world around them a little bit brighter. Besides the things I see regularly, researching new designers and their styles is always a great way to refresh my mindset and give me a new idea. I think it's important to try and push myself out of my comfort zone and try new techniques for my work. Design is constantly changing and evolving, which means that staying consistent with current trends is important to thrive as an artist! Checking out art magazines, books, or websites are important for ideas.
